Karabo Morule

Director of Amara Strategic Investments and Co-Founder of Capital Art

After matriculating in 1999, Karabo obtained her Business Science degree in Actuarial Science with First Class Honours from the University of Cape Town (UCT). She also completed a post-graduate diploma in Actuarial Science at UCT in 2006. She is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), the actual body in the United Kingdom and a Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA) and has been recognised by the Mail & Guardian in 2014 as one of 200 young South African leaders who are shaping the country’s future. Building on her achievement of being the second black woman to qualify as an actuary in South Africa, Karabo became one of only two South Africans asked join the World Economic Forum’s community of Young Global Leaders (YGL) in 2018, joining a community which contains another Roedeanian, Rapelang Rabana. The invitees are the world’s most dynamic artists, business leaders, public servants, social entrepreneurs and technologists under the age of 40, and she has attended YGL educational programmes on Smart Cities and Integrating Sustainability Practices into Business as well as the virtual Davos in January 2021. Karabo also completed the Advanced Management Programme from Harvard Business School in 2019.

Ms Morule’s working career started at the global investment bank, J.P. Morgan where she spent almost five years, three of which were working from the company’s Europe, Middle East and Africa headquarters in London, UK. She also spent close to 10 years at Old Mutual and held several management positions and excelled as a principled and far-sighted leader. In January 2016 she was appointed as Managing Director of Old Mutual Personal Finance, one of the Group’s largest business segments, servicing the needs of almost 2 million customers. Ms Morule left Old Mutual in 2020, to start Amara Strategic Investments, which is focused on angel investing, and she co-Founded Capital Art, an art-tech startup that enables both new and accomplished art collectors better understand, preserve and potentially increase the value of their art. Ms Morule is a member on the Roedean Trust.
